Whistleblower Protections

The House Republican Conference is committed to protecting the rights of whistleblowers who report waste, fraud, abuse, and mismanagement within the federal government.

Protections Under Federal Law

Federal employees are protected under the Whistleblower Protection Act of 1989 and the Whistleblower Protection Enhancement Act of 2012. These laws prohibit retaliation against employees who disclose evidence of violations of law, gross mismanagement, gross waste of funds, abuse of authority, or substantial and specific danger to public health or safety.

How to Report

Reports may be made to the Office of Special Counsel, the relevant Inspector General, or to a member of Congress. All disclosures are handled in accordance with applicable confidentiality requirements.

Congressional Oversight

House Republicans support rigorous congressional oversight and encourage federal employees to come forward with information about government waste or misconduct through appropriate legal channels.
